Spotify Axed in Uruguay Over Higher Artists Rates!

Well one way to avoid paying artists, is to remove your app entirely! That's what Spotify have done in Uruguay, with the recent change in the countries laws regarding artists and musician royalties. The artist union petitioned for laws to be more artist-friendly – the Parliament of Uruguay voted to amend Articles 284 and 285 in the ‘Rendición de Cuentas’ law, meaning artists will be entitled to “fair and equitable remuneration” for the use and distribution of their works. Spotify claims this increase would be unviable financially, and therefor has axed the service as of Jan 1st 2024. You can read more about it here!

Behind The Scenes When You Upload a Song

Okay so you've written and recorded a great song, you've signed up for Spotify for artists...so what actually happens after you upload your song? Well you've got a few stages. Your music first reaches the ears of an AI which determines if it is firstly music, which then gets passed on to the countries editorial team. And from there? It's all about playlisting and micro-data, so check out this article here which takes you through the steps!
